Nybold
Nybold (Danish for "new ball"; IPA: [ˈnybɔltʰ]) is a major brand of tennis and badminton ware, including but not limited to tennis balls and rackets, badminton rackets and birdies, nets, sport clothing including shoes, repair equipment, and digital sensor-based live action sport media software and hardware (for example, a radar gun designed to measure speed, spin and other properties of a tennis ball in motion). The brand is a fully owned subsidiary and registered trademark of Sortsdam Global Group. It was established in 1988 by a tennis club of Danish expats based in Mexico City, and purchased by Sortsdam Global Group in 1991 for the modern equivalent of US$178 million. Nybold is managed by Sortsdam Global Group's Sports and Recreation Division.
Nybold has its corporate headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark, although the majority of its factories and pre-distribution centres are located in the Danish city of Aabenraa, just over 20 kilometres north of the border with Germany; Nybold also operates several factories and distribution centres in Albany, New York, United States and Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. According to Sports Illustrated, Nybold tennis balls are the fourth-most commonly used or encountered tennis balls in the world. Nybold tennis balls are easily recognisable by their white-yellow (as opposed to the standard deeper yellow) colour, although balls especially designed for lawn tennis instead have a distinct sky-blue colour, and all balls have the brand logo of a stylised capital N. The stylised capital N logo is included on all other products as well: for example, Nybold-brand tennis and badminton rackets have the stylised N painted across the strings, and Nybold-brand shoes have the N accentuating the shoe's arch along each outer side.
