Provincial and territorial branches of the NDP
The Canadian federal New Democratic Party (NDP), the current opposition party in the Parliament of Canada, has 18 party branches (French: branches du parti), one for each of Canada's 13 provinces and five territories. Each branch is composed of politicians who campaign to form the provincial/territorial government of their province or territory each provincial/territorial election. NDP part branches are affiliated with the federal NDP in ideology, and the many branches often attend events with together and with the federal party. However, each provincial/territorial branch is 100% financially independent, and accepts donations only from within its own respective province or territory. Many former provincial or territorial NDP members go on to become members of the federal NDP, but the entities remain entirely separate.
