The Bahraini Arab Republic (Arabic: الجمهورية العربية البحرينية al-jumhūriyah al-‘arabīyah al-baḥraynīyah), informally known as Bahrain (البحرين al-baḥrayn), is the smallest and least populous of the 20 member republics of the Arab Union. It is also the only insular republic, located entirely on Bahrain Island and multiple smaller islands in the Persian Gulf, approximately halfway between the Peninsular Arab Republic and the Qatari Arab Republic; the main island is connected by bridge to the Peninsular Republic. Its capital and largest city is Manama, and its only official language is Arabic. At the end of 2018, Bahrain had a population of just over 1.6 million.

The executive government of the Bahraini Arab Republic is the Council of Ministers of Bahrain, led since 1999 by Premier Hassan Ali, who has also served since 1991 as Regional Secretary of the Regional Command of the Bahraini Regional Branch of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party. The republic's legislative branch is the Republican Congress of Bahrain, a unicameral assembly of 105 seats, which is responsible for electing the Premier.
