Executive Council of British Columbia
The Executive Council of British Columbia, or Cabinet of British Columbia, is the top executive government body of the Canadian province of British Columbia (BC). It functions as the cabinet of the Premier of British Columbia (the provincial head of government), with all provincial ministries subordinate to the Executive Council. The party or coalition holding a majority of seats in the Assembly of British Columbia (the legislative branch of the provincial government) has prerogative to form executive government. The Premier of BC, usually the leader of the majority party, is ultimately confirmed by the Deputy President of British Columbia on advice of the Assembly of BC. The confirmed premier then goes on to nominate multiple individuals typically from within the ruling party/coalition to different positions in the Executive Council, primarily as ministers (those overseeing a particular ministry of the Executive Council, who are confirmed by the Deputy President of British Columbia and ultimately answerable to the Assembly of BC.
