The Government of the Jordanian Arab Republic (Arabic: حكومة الجمهورية العربية الأُردنِّة ḥukūmat al-jumhūriyah al-‘arabīyah al-urdunnīyah) is the supreme authority of the Jordanian Arab Republic, one of the 20 republics of the Arab Union. Most of Jordan's matters are the responsibility of the republican government, the federal government of the Arab Union playing a relatively small role in the daily lives of Jordanians. Jordan's government consists of three branches: the Executive Council of Jordan, which oversees all republican ministries, government agencies and services, including the Jordanian National Police; the Jordanian Arab Congress, the unicameral legislative assembly of the republic, which indirectly appoints the Premier of Jordan, who leads the Executive Council and appoints its members; and the Supreme Court of Jordan, the highest court in the republic's judicial system, second only to the Supreme Court of the Arab Union and the Arab Union Court of Appeals. Sometimes, in both Arabic and English, the term "government of Jordan" refers exclusively to the executive branch.
