The King Christian Islands (Danish: Kong Christian Øer; Māerui: Rā Motu ke kā Kāeterōa kā Danē; lit. "The King of Denmark's Islands") are a Danish overseas collectivity in the South Pacific, about 700 km northeast of the French Polynesian archipelago of the Marquesas Islands, at about the halfway point of the eastern side of the so-called Polynesian Triangle. Consisting of 17 islands (8 tall islands and 9 atolls), its capital, main port and largest city is Mōana Rāe, located on Reangarōa, the largest of the islands. According to the 2020 census, the islands had a total population of 277,404, just under 25% of whom were foreign residents (mostly from Denmark) or immigrants. Just under two-thirds (150,889) of the population resides on the main island of Reangarōa.
