Medayek el-Kuneiya

Jump to navigationJump to searchMedayek el-Kuneiya (Arabic: مضايق القنية) is a natural narrows (or large gully) through which the River Yarmouk passes, just over one kilometre upstream from the river's point of confluence with the Jordan. Due to its narrow yet deep topography and the large river basin situated to its southeast, the site proved a geographically ideal location for the Two Rivers Dam and hydroelectric station, opened in 1950 and spanning the width of the narrows.
