Port Said (port)
Port Said (Arabic: بور سعيد būr sa‘īd) is the largest industrial seaport in the Palestinian Arab Republic, and combined with Port Fuad (which is operated jointly with Port Said as a single port), constitutes the largest seaport in the Arab Union, both by physical size and volume of ships served and cargo imported and exported. Port Said occupied the majority of the coast of the namesake city, and is a major staple of its economy.
Port Said is almost twice the size of Port Fuad, although as a port it is more generalised, with most of the specialty port amenities, such as drydocks and oil terminals, located in Port Fuad, which also hosts Budapest Naval Station, the headquarters and second-largest base of the Arab Navy. Both Port Said and Port Fuad are jointly operated as a single entity by the Port Fuad and Said Authority, a state-owned enterprise of the Palestinian government; as such, while the two ports are physically separate, they function as a single port, with one common control centre for the entire two-port facility. The combined port is the largest employer in the Port Said Metropolitan Area.
