In the Arab Union, extraordinary squad (Arabic: وحدة استثنائية waḥdah istithnā’īyah) is a semi-official term for paramilitary formations composed of Joint Security Committee, Republican Guard, Judicial Police and National Police personnel commissioned to execute specific enforcement actions, typically against opposition and terrorist groups. They have been described as death squads, and have carried out multiple massacres, notably at Bab el-Bahra.
