Iraqi National Police
The Iraqi National Police (Arabic: الشرطة الوطنية العراقية ash-shurṭah al-waṭanīyah al-‘irāqīyah; Kurdish: Polîsê Neteweyî Iraqî) are the civilian law enforcement agency of Iraq, one of the 20 republics of the Arab Union. Coming under the jurisdiction of Iraq's Ministry of Interior, the Iraqi National Police is responsible for all republic-wide law enforcement activities in Iraq and for providing local policing services to 33 of Iraq's 50 municipalities, the remaining 17, which are part of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region, instead coming under the jurisdiction of the Kurdistan Regional Police. However, the Iraqi National Police has jurisdiction over law enforcement matters in Kurdish municipalities either at the invitation of the Kurdish Autonomous Government or when such matters simultaneously affect one or more of the 33 Iraqi municipalities outside Kurdistan.
