Jump to navigationJump to searchMohammed Issam Hazima (Arabic: محمد عصام هزيمة; b. 10 February 1976 in Damascus) is a Syrian banker and economist who has served as President of the Central Bank of the Arab Union since January 2018. He previously served from 2011 to 2016 as chief economist of the All-Union Public Investment Authority under the Minister of Finance, and from 2007 to 2011 as Chairman of the National Financial Services Authority. Hazima graduated from Damascus University in 1998 with a Master of Arts in Economics, with a minor in Public Administration. He has been married to Nisreen Abbas since 1995, with whom he has two teenage sons and one adult daughter. The Hazima family resides in Kiryat Jalil, Nasser City, and owns a second home in Damascus.
