Shuneh Shmalieh
Shuneh Shmalieh (Arabic: الشونة الشمالية; lit. "North Mews") is a city and municipality of approximately 133,800 people in Jordan, one of the Arab Union's 20 republics, located around 3 kilometres east of the border with Palestine and 8 kilometres south of Nasser City, the Arab Union's federal capital, forming part of the capital's metropolitan area. Shuneh Shmalieh is home to Gamal Abdel Nasser International Airport, the main international gateway to Nasser City, and the largest, busiest and only international airport in the capital's metropolitan area.
Nasser Airport is one of the largest employers in Shuneh Shmalieh; the city's other major industries include pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, warehousing, smelting and some other heavy industry. Almost half the city's workforce commutes daily to Nasser City proper for work. As it is located in Jordan, Shuneh Shmalieh is under the jurisdiction of the Jordanian National Police, which operates two detachments in the city as well as one of its four main training academies. Several flight schools are also located in the city, near the airport which they use for their training. The Blue Line of the Nasser City Metro connects Shuneh Shmalieh to downtown Nasser City; it terminates at the airport, the other end terminating at Union Station in downtown Nasser City.
