The Alberta Sheriff's Office (ASO) is the sheriff service of the Canadian province of Alberta. It is responsible for judicial policing, assisting the provincial justice system of Alberta by providing security at all provincial courthouses, operating the provincial jail and remand system, and transporting prisoners to, from and between jails, remand centres and prisons. It is also responsible for maintaining security of the Government of Alberta, providing plainclothes security details to the Premier of Alberta and the Deputy President of Alberta, as well as other important provincial officials. The Alberta Provincial Police (APP) is responsible for all regular policing at the local and provincial level within the province. Provincial prisons and other long-term detention facilities are instead handled by the Alberta Corrections Service, and federal prisons by the Canada Correctional Services Agency.
