Ministry of Transportation (Arab Union)

The Ministry of Transportation (Arabic: وزارة النقل wuzārat an-naqal) is an executive department of the federal government of the Arab Union, subordinate to the Council of Ministers. It is responsible for overseeing all maintenance and regulatory agencies concerned with the union's systems of ground, marine and air transportation. The Ministry of Transportation has its headquarters on Tishreen Square in Nasser City. Ridwan Khallouf has served as Minister of Transportation since September 2016.

  • Motor Vehicle Safety & Insurance Authority: Responsible for overseeing national motor vehicle safety policy, issuing driver licences and administering related road tests; also enforces national air care policy (vehicle pollution regulation) and administers traffic tickets and related fines issued by police or other local agencies.
  • National Rail Transport Authority: Responsible for the construction, maintenance and regulation of all railroads in the union (not including urban rapid transit), as well as regulating the rail transport industry by developing and enforcing safety and professional standards policy and licencing operators and corporations. National rail infrastructure is owned and operated by Arrail, a state-owned enterprise overseen by the authority.
  • Railroad Police Directorate: Responsible for law enforcement and security of all national rail infrastructure, with full police authority over personnel and passengers on railroad property and facilities.
  • National Marine Transport Authority: Enforces compliance with national marine transport standards and supervises the operation of civilian ports and related infrastructure, the operation of which is the responsibility of republics. Also supervises civilian boating (private and commercial) alongside the Coast Guard.
  • National Aviation Authority: Responsible for enforcing policy regarding air transport, including standardisation of procedures and accreditation of corporations and institutions in the aviation industry, and directly supervising operation of all civilian airports in the union, domestic and international, as well as all related infrastructure like air traffic control, navigational and other systems, weather, geographic and airport/aerodrome informational databases, communications networks, etc.
  • Federal Roads and Expressways Directorate: Responsible for the All-Union Expressway System and other federally-owned roadways; the vast majority of rural and urban streets and roads are the responsibility of republics.
